Strolling down the park one day ...

Well, it was not really in the month of May but April actually. It had snowed a few inches the night before so we decided to take our Husky for a walk so she could play in the fresh snow.

We made our way through the neighborhood and decided to go up a street that wrapped around and back to the way we had come from. Our dog seemed to be very excited and was well leading our way. As we reached the top and the snow came up to our thighs we suddenly froze dead in our tracks. At 30ft from us a black bear was standing against a tree staring right at us; and let me tell you, that is one of the scariest sights I have ever had. For the record, no, my life did not flash before my eyes, but yes, every imaginable worst case scenario did come to mind. I could almost feel the bear's breath up against my neck ... I could vividly picture him/her mauling us to death ... I could almost see the newspaper headline that read "couple and their dog killed by bear in local neighborhood hike". All in the flash of seconds.

Of course, none of that happened since I am now writing to tell the tale. However, my first instinct was [after making eye contact, of course] to turn around and get the hell out of there as fast as I could. For a split second I almost pulled out the phone to take a picture but even I was not stupid enough to do that. Amidst the chaos Locksley kept wanting to go play with the bear and its cubs [oh yes, there were cubs!] while the hubby maintained a level head and tried to keep me calm. The bear was probably more scared that we were but even so it was still an experience that i do not wish to go through again anytime soon.
